Department of Home Economics

Introduction

      The Department of Home- Economics has been established in 1988. With only 36 students in B.A. Ist year. Now the strength of the students have been increased more than three times.

      Dr. S.N.Ratnaparkhi was the first faculty member to join the department on 21st Aug 1989 as a regular lecturer in the department. After retirement of Dr. S. N. Ratnaparkhi, Dr. N. A. Bodkhe has now been handed over the responsibilities of head of the department at Mahatma Fule Mahavidyalaya, since 18th Sept 2019.

      Home- Economics Laboratory was constructed in the year 2000 & inaugurated by Dr.S.N.Patil , Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University Amravati on dated 7th Oct 2000.

      The Department has well equipped Laboratories for the subjects , Food & nutrition ,Home Management and Human Development along with major & advance electronic equipment’s viz. Cooking Range ,Flour Mill, Gas Stove ,Microwave Oven, Freeze, Washing Machine, Sewing Machine, Air fryer, Embroidery Machine, Pico Machine, Interlock Machine, Weighing Machine and many more.

      Teaching aids like computer, Bulletin board, leaflets, charts, & scrap books etc. are made available at the department for the student and faculty members.

      NAAC appreciated the Department of Home Economics as the best department in the college on the basis of presentation, display of the information & office keeping.

      A part from the college library, the department has its own departmental library consisting of more than 50 books & Journals, Souvenir, Reference books are also available in library.

Aims of the Department

• To achieve academic excellence in basis and applied aspect of Home Economics.

• To impart basis and advance education to students to teaching, learning and evaluation.

• To motivate students and staff to realize their own potential for all round development. During the span of last 30 years several students (prominent Alumni) have achieved noticeable positions in their fields. Three of them, are teachers three are Head of the Department of Home economics in different colleges, and one of the student was president Z .P. Nagpur.

     Every year the Home –Economics Association is being newly established for the overall development of the students. The guest lectures, workshop, bal sanskar shibir and Demonstrations are regularly organized by the department viz. guest lectures on Breast Feeding, Balanced diet, Adolescent diet etc.

      Workshop on “Interaction with girl students on-sexual, mentally & Hygiene safety. And workshop organized on Bags making also.

     Demonstration of flower arrangement, Tie & Dye, Chocolates making Fruit Juice etc.

     To develop the entrepreneurship skills among the students for these purpose the demonstration are organized by the department. Being the Rural Background of the students, we want to make them self-dependent, self-sufficient i.e. Women empowerment.

      Department of Home Economics Organized, UGC Sponsored State Level Seminar on “Importance of Regular & Balanced diet for the Betterment of Human life” On 6th march 2011 in collaboration of Indian Medical Association. Warud & Sonai Arogya Margdarshan Sanstha Warud.
